Considering Abortion? : First Steps
Avenue Women’s Center is able to offer many clients a free painless ultrasound. We understand that many women looking into abortion find it helpful to first have an ultrasound, as it may have an effect on their need for an abortion.
Here are two key reasons for having an ultrasound:
1. Ultrasound helps you know exactly how far along you are. As your Avenue Women’s Center medical professional performs the ultrasound, she is able to make calculations, determining the gestational age of the pregnancy. Knowing the gestational age helps determine which abortion procedures may be options for your situation.
2. Ultrasound lets you know whether you have a viable pregnancy or not. “Viable” means “likely to continue.” Since 1 out of every 6 pregnancies ends in miscarriage, viability lets you know whether your pregnancy is likely to end naturally or is likely to continue. Some pregnancies end prematurely due to natural miscarriage or due to ectopic pregnancies.
Our caring staff can help you determine if receiving one of our free ultrasounds would be helpful in your situation. Please chat now or call Avenue Women’s Center at 630-455-0300.
The National Institutes of Health define gestational age as: “the common term used during pregnancy to describe how far along the pregnancy is.” (source)
CareNet DuPage understands that ultrasounds are an accurate way to determine gestational age. If you are interested in receiving a free ultrasound, please call us at 630-455-0300. We are here to help with your unique situation, and schedule an appointment if one is appropriate.
What is miscarriage? Mayo Clinic defines miscarriage as: “the spontaneous loss of a pregnancy before the 20th week.” (source)
At CareNet DuPage, we recognize that at least 1 out of 6 pregnancies end naturally in miscarriage. We know that is a conservative estimate, as it considers only known pregnancies. The miscarriage rate for all pregnancies, including very early unknown pregnancies, is probably much higher.
Miscarriages typically happen when something is not progressing correctly with the pregnancy. The causes for these situations are rarely understood, even in the medical profession. Sometimes, miscarriages just happen.
Many women find it helpful to confirm where they stand with their personal risk of miscarriage before going through with an abortion procedure.
We can help with that. Information about our free and confidential ultrasounds is available by chatting or calling 630-455-0300.
You’ve been told that it’s recommended to get an ultrasound before you get an abortion, due to the risk of ectopic pregnancy and the risk of miscarriage early on in pregnancy. What is ectopic pregnancy?
An ectopic pregnancy is a pregnancy that does not implant in the uterus. Most commonly the pregnancy locates itself in the fallopian tubes. This type of pregnancy will not be able to proceed normally. Ectopic pregnancies do not happen that often, but can occur and do need medical attention.
An ultrasound will help you determine whether you need to be concerned about this risk or not. Please contact us for answers to any further questions about your situation and the services offered by CareNet DuPage.
Cost of ultrasound
Most abortion clinics require an ultrasound before any abortion procedure and will build in an additional cost for this service. The prices can vary from place to place. We are pleased to offer this important service to many women for free.
Please chat or call 630-455-0300 to discuss ultrasound and your personal situation.
