Are you experiencing an unplanned pregnancy? If so, you aren’t alone. Almost half (49%) of all women in the United States experience an unintended pregnancy by the age of 45. If you are pregnant—or think you may be pregnant—low-cost and even free pregnancy help is available in many locales. From free pregnancy tests to continued support throughout your pregnancy, there are resources out there for those who need them.

If you are looking into affordable and compassionate care, here are three things you should consider when seeking help for an unplanned pregnancy.

  • Testing: Typical pregnancy early signs can appear remarkably similar to the signs of PMS, so it’s possible to miss these symptoms. However, if you find that your period is more than a couple of weeks late, you may be pregnant. If you aren’t sure about using a home pregnancy test or are unable to afford one, many pregnancy help centers will offer free pregnancy tests. Getting a pregnancy test for free may also include free ultrasounds at many pregnancy services centers.
  • Advice: In addition to free pregnancy tests, many adult and teen pregnancy centers will provide you with all of your options along with the cost and risk associated with each. This can include advice on discussing your pregnancy with the baby’s father or with your family members. These centers may offer referrals for other services in your area that support you as you process what is best for your situation.
  • Treatment: Finally, one of the most important reasons for obtaining healthcare while pregnant is to gain expert advice from an experienced staff. One of the biggest risks for pregnant women is miscarriage. A miscarriage is the loss of a pregnancy due to issues with the development of the embryo or fetus. Other risks can include ectopic pregnancies, gestational diabetes and genetic abnormalities. An experienced clinical staff can identify warning signs that may alert you to a high risk pregnancy.
